From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A flash mob (or flashmob) is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse.[2] The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.
The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms, protests, and publicity stunts.
I first was inspired by Oprah's Flash Mob and thought why can't we do that! So I gathered my troupe, Tribal de Luna, and set off to find the right music and choreography, I wanted it to be "belly dancer-ish" but not so much that the general public couldn't do the choreography. I found the right music and we started off 2010 with a small group learning the dance and Flash-mobbed at The Daffodil Festival in Meriden, CT. Our group has grown and we are breaking out in the Belly Dance flash mob any chance we get! We recently had 16 flash mob at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven, CT.
